In the project, Finan was exploring some of the folk histories and traditions surrounding the use of furze (gorse) in Ireland from the 16th to the 20th Century. For the performance Shane sang the folk song Cad é sin don té sin (What is it to that person), first written down in 1812. He created a dornóg, which is a rope glove made from grass rope to protect the hand while harvesting furze (gorse). He then walks and cuts some furze using the dornóg and a billhook. Reusing the glove, he undoes the rope and ties it to the cut furze; and brings it back with an untangled rope tied to the cut plant. The performance finishes with the gate outside the pavilion being sealed by the cut furze. The video was recorded by Serhii Shapoval for Mermaid Arts Centre Bray. The project was supported by the Arts Council through the Wicklow Arts Office Strategic Projects Award.
